Project: Ontario House Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics
Date: February 2010
Client: Government of Ontario Ministry of Tourism
Challenge: Talent Management
In September 2009 we were engaged, on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, to negotiate the booking of Musical Talent for Ontario House at the Olympic Games. Their original "Wish List" contained almost 75 Musical Acts. From this list, our task was to arrange a diverse line-up of 22 acts, performing over 18 days, which reflected Ontario's past, present and future musical talent to the world.
Infinite worked with multiple agencies to determine which acts were both interested and available during our short timeframe. Once this initial work was completed, we calculated the full costs of the Musical Acts, including fees, riders, flights, accommodations and ground transport. Based on these cost assessments, we then identified each Act's target audience and compared their projected demographic to our Client's desired goal of enticing diverse audiences from "all walks of life" to experience the evening concerts at Ontario House.
Finally, we negotiated all parts of the Artists' contracts and successfully booked the 22 acts, inclusive of all requirements and below the previously arranged budget estimate. The nightly entertainment showcase became one of the most popular draws at Ontario House and was widely praised for its diverse representation of our province's musical talent.
In addition to the nightly shows in Ontario House, Infinite was selected to arrange and book Musical Acts for a spectacular 30 minute Ontario Day pre-medal award ceremony in the main Olympic Stadium. We cooperated closely on this massive undertaking with the in-house production company, along with VANOC and our client, to create a World Class performance. Adding to our challenge, there were very strict timing guidelines for this live-to-air event, which required us to adhere to a rigid scripting timeline. Through the efforts of Infinite and our partners, the celebration ran flawlessly and exceeded all expectations.
Both the nightly concerts and the 30 minute extravaganza allowed Infinite to showcase our expertise in Talent Management. The nightly events became a key success story for Ontario House during the Olympic Games and drew wide praise. Our clients, along with the tens of thousands of spectators, were delighted with the wide diversity and outstanding professionalism of the talent we helped organize for this truly world class event.
The execution of this internationally-focused project provided us with the opportunity to showcase our logistical expertise in the creation of a massive media centre within a very concentrated period of time. The Event was an unqualified success with both the International Media and our Client, who were equally thrilled with the final results.
